SETTING THE SCENE
The Texas Tech Red Raiders put their 2008 season on the line this weekend as they face the Baylor Bears in the regular-season finale for both teams. The Red Raiders still have a chance to secure a spot in the upcoming Big 12 Conference Championship, but it will come against a talented Baylor squad that enters the series with a 10-14 record in league play. First pitch on Friday night is set for 6:05 p.m. and the series will continue at 2 p.m. on Saturday. The regular-season finale will get underway at 1 p.m. on Sunday afternoon. Tickets for all three-games can be purchased at the Texas Tech Athletics Ticket Office in advance by calling (806) 742-TECH or online at www.texastech.com. The gameday ticket office at Dan Law Field will open two hours prior to first pitch each day.
The best case scenario for the Red Raiders this weekend would be a series sweep of Baylor but there is another possibility out there should Tech only win two games. A Big 12 series win over Baylor would mark just the second of the season for the Red Raiders as Tech took 2-of-3 from Missouri back in late March. A Big 12 series sweep would be the first by a Tech team since taking all three against Missouri back in 2006.
Texas Tech split a doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon against NCAA hopeful Dallas Baptist. The Patriots won the first game 8-4 before Tech rebounded with a 9-8 win in game-two. Texas Tech now stands at 23-29 on the season and at 7-17 in league play.
All three games of the Baylor series will be carried live on the Texas Tech Sports Network (KKAM 1340 in Lubbock) with Robert Giovannetti and Matt Miller calling the action live from Dan Law Field. Live audio and video will be available on the official website of Texas Tech Athletics, www.texastech.com.
