LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech's No. 45 nationally-ranked veteran duo of Janet Durham and Samantha van der Drift were one of six teams named to the 2008 All-Big 12 doubles team announced by the conference yesterday. The duo finished the season at 8-4 in dual matches playing the No. 1 position for the women's tennis team.
"I'm very proud of them as they came out strong towards the end of this year, and really proved to be one of the top doubles in the nation," said head coach Cari Groce. "They unfortunately came up short of a couple points to secure a spot in the post-season NCAA Doubles Championships, but regardless I congratulate them as their hard work this season has paid off."
The pair earned their biggest win of the season against No. 23 ranked Marija Milic and Vanja Corovic of Texas, 8-6, in Austin. Senior Durham is the all-time winningest doubles player at Tech with 88 career victories, passing former teammate Lakann Wagley earlier this season against SMU. The last duo to garner All-Big 12 doubles honors was in 2006 as former letterwinners Wagley and Tara Browning received the honor for the second straight season.
