LUBBOCK, Texas - Looking to go out with a bang after a pair of tough losses last weekend, the Texas Tech Women's Tennis Team will play its final home match of 2008 hosting No. 32 Texas A&M Aggies on Friday, April 18, at 5 p.m. at the McLeod Tennis Center. Dubbed "Senior Day", Janet Durham and Brenna Jackson will play in their last two matches at home for the Lady Raiders.
Last weekend Tech suffered back-to-back losses as Oklahoma and Oklahoma State snuck in and took it to the No. 75 Lady Raiders. The team fell to 4-5 in the Big 12, 11-9 overall, putting them in a three-way tie for fifth with Nebraska and Oklahoma State. In doubles, the freshman duo of Kelsy Garland and Simone Templeton went 2-0 at No. 3, advancing their conference record to 6-3.
Senior Durham enters the match as Tech's all-time winningest doubles player with a record of 86-41, passing former teammate Lakann Wagley in her match earlier this season against SMU. In addition to doubles, Durham has maintained a strong career singles record of 73-60, placing her second in career singles victories behind former Tech letterwinnner Eva Eguiguren (1993-97).
Jackson is renowned for her doubles play as she has filled all three doubles positions in her two years as a Red Raider. A transfer last season from Midwestern State, she posted a 19-12 doubles record after playing most of the season with Wagley at No. 2 doubles. This season she is back in the No. 2 spot with teammate Kerryn Potgieter, where the two have gone 5-4 in Big 12 matches.
The Aggies come to Lubbock dominating the series 27-2 after sweeping the Raiders last season in College Station, Texas. The team is led by sophomore Elze Potgieter in singles, who holds a 12-6 record at No. 1 and is currently ranked No. 93 in the nation. Potgieter and Tiffany Clifford are A&M's 59th-ranked duo, and are currently 4-3 at No. 1.
