LUBBOCK, Texas - Tavistock Group and the Texas Tech Athletics Association announced today that Texas Tech University will be the host school behind the annual Isleworth Collegiate Invitational. Each year, the nation's top collegiate golf teams travel to Isleworth Golf & Country Club in Windermere, Fla. to vie for college golf's most coveted title.
"We are excited to take on this new role as the host university for college golf's premier event," said Texas Tech Men's Golf Head Coach Greg Sands. "Ideally, you would like to hold a tournament in your own backyard, but there is only one Isleworth. Having the opportunity to host an event there is a tremendous privilege for our golf program."
The Isleworth Collegiate Invitational began in 2004 and was created to give collegiate players and coaches the feel of a PGA Tour event. The tournament provides collegiate golfers the opportunity to compete on one of the toughest courses in the country against the best players in the game. Through the first five years of the event, the University of Georgia has dominated by winning four of the five tournaments. Other top participating programs include Arizona State University, Clemson University, Georgia Tech, Oklahoma State University, Stanford University, UCLA, University of Alabama and University of Southern California.
Isleworth is a par-72, 7,544-yard championship course originally designed by Arnold Palmer and Ed Seay, later redesigned and enhanced by Steve Smyers. Isleworth consistently ranks as one of the longest and most difficult courses in the state of Florida and is home to a number of world-renowned PGA professionals.
"We are honored to welcome Texas Tech University as our host school," said Andy Odenbach, vice president of sports ventures for Tavistock Group. "Our goal in partnering with Texas Tech is to ensure that the Isleworth Collegiate Invitational is the finest collegiate event in the country."
The 2009 Isleworth Collegiate Invitational hosted by Texas Tech will be held Sunday, October 25, through Tuesday, October 27, at Isleworth Golf & Country Club. The three-day tournament plans to announce its 15-team field in January.
