LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech put the finishing touches on arguably the most talented group of golfers signed by the program when four players, including three of the top 25 junior golfers in the country, signed national letters of intent this week.
Oklahoma natives Chandler Rusk (Edmond North), Drew Dorsey (Edmond Santa Fe) and Logan McCracken (Oklahoma City Putnam City North) are ranked 16th, 23rd and 25th, respectively, in the latest National Junior Golf Scoreboard (NJGS) rankings. Joining the trio in the class is Orlando, Fla., native Aaron Fitzpatrick.
A 2008 American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) Honorable Mention All-American, Rusk has a 73.86 scoring average in AJGA national events this year and won the 2008 AJGA Valero Texas Open Junior Shootout. In addition to his NJGS ranking, Rusk also is ranked 27th and 46th in the AJGA Polo Junior Golf National Ranking Class of 2009 and the Golfweek Junior National Ranking Class of 2009.
Dorsey finished third at the AJGA Championship at Traditions in Bryan, Texas, and holds additional rankings of 49th (AJGA) and 50th (Golfweek). He has averaged 75.29 strokes per round during the 2008 AJGA tournament schedule.
Averaging 73.77 strokes during the current season, McCracken has two top five finishes to his credit - first place at the Big "I" Junior Golf Championship at the Country Club of North Carolina, shooting 8-under for the event, and a fourth-place showing at the AJGA Aldila Junior at Oak Tree. McCracken also ranks 20th (AJGA) and 21st (Golfweek).
Fitzpatrick, a student at Ramstein High School, has six top 25 finishes to his credit this season in AJGA play and is ranked among the top 200 golfers nationally by Golfweek.
