
Tech Plays with Intensity but Falls to No. 3 Texas

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech volleyball squad played with intensity throughout the match and pushed the No. 3 Texas Longhorn early, behind eight kills from middle blocker Amanda Dowdy and outside hitter Hayley Ball, before losing in three sets 25-15, 25-19, 25-16.
Early in the first set the Red Raiders (5-17, 0-11) went toe-to-toe with the Longhorns (15-2, 9-1) tying the set at 8-8 on a kill from Dowdy. Texas went on a run to push its lead to 19-12 before pulling away 25-15.
Tech was down 6-1 before closing the gap to 12-9 on a Ball ace. The Red Raiders rallied back from a 20-13 deficit on a kill from outside hitter Amanda Sbragia to bring the score 23-19, but Texas won the second set 25-19.
The slow start continued for the Red Raiders in the third set as they were down 6-2. Middle blocker Brandi Hood sparked the comeback with two of her six kills to bring the score to within three points. Texas caught fire hitting a .652 percentage in the final set to win 25-16.
Setter Caroline Witte finished the match with 20 assists and eight digs.
Texas was led by Juliann Faucette and Jennifer Doris both with 12 kills.
Texas Tech faces Colorado this Saturday at 7 p.m. at the United Spirit Arena
