Knight Honored as Wilma Rudolph Courage Award Winner

LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech's Patience Knight continues to be honored for her amazing accomplishments and battle with cancer as she was named the winner of the Women's Sports Foundation Wilma Rudolph Courage Award.
Knight, a two-time All-American during the 2008 season, battled cancer during the 2007 season. Knight was diagnosed with a cancerous tumor near her heart during the 2007 season. She underwent rounds of chemotherapy and radiation, while still competing during the 2007 season. She holds the school records in both the indoor and outdoor shot put.
The Women's Sports Foundation gives the Wilma Rudolph Courage Award to a female athlete who exemplifies extraordinary courage in athlete performance, demonstrates the ability to overcome adversity makes significant contributions to sports and serves as a role model to those who face challenges. Jackie Joyner-Kersee was the first recipient of the Wilma Rudolph Award in 1996.
