Red Raiders Lose on the Road in Straight Sets

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech volleyball team lost in straight sets on the road as the Iowa State Cyclones hit a .441 percentage to win the match (25-17, 25-14, 25-14).
The Cyclones (12-7, 3-4) got out to an early lead at 9-1 in the first set. The Red Raiders (5-15, 0-9) fought back to 16-15 behind an ace from defensive specialist Brooke Smith and two straight kills from outside hitter Becca Baldwin. Iowa State went on a run to win the set 25-17.
Tech jumped out to a 6-5 lead in the second set behind kills from middle blocker Amanda Dowdy and setter Caroline Witte. Iowa State went on a streak that the Red Raiders couldn't slow as the Cyclones won the second set 25-14.
Tech and Iowa State were tied in the third set as the outside hitters Hayley Ball and Amanda Sbragia both had two kills early in the set. Iowa State finished the match outscoring the Red Raiders 18-7 to win the final set 25-14.
Middle blocker Brandi Hood and Dowdy led the Red Raiders with seven kills each. Libero Jenn Harrell recorded 10 digs.
Victoria Henson finished with 16 kills to lead the Cyclones to the victory.
Tech stays on the road for a match Saturday against the No. 15 Kansas State Wildcats.
