LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech Baseball fans are encouraged to come out and get a look at the 2009 Red Raiders on Friday evening as they host an intrasquad scrimmage at Dan Law Field.
The scrimmage is a good way to start out a big weekend in Texas Tech sports as the soccer, football and volleyball teams will all play conference games at home. Tech soccer will take on Baylor (Battle of the Brand) on Friday evening at the John Walker Soccer Complex at 7 p.m. while the seventh-ranked football team will face the Nebraska Cornhuskers at 2 p.m. on Saturday afternoon at Jones AT&T Stadium. The action continues on Saturday evening as Nancy Todd's volleyball team will take on Texas A&M at 7 p.m. in the United Spirit Arena and the soccer team will close the weekend out on Sunday with a 1 p.m. match against the University of Texas.
First pitch on Friday night is scheduled for 6 p.m. and fans can enter the stadium through the main entrance. There will be no admission fee.
Texas Tech welcomes back 20 lettermen from last year's team along with a 19 newcomers in what will be the first season under new head coach Dan Spencer. Spencer took over the program in July after the retirement of Texas Tech legend Larry Hays. Among the 20 lettermen returning from last year are five starting position players and 10 pitchers.
The Red Raiders will conclude fall practice with a five-game Red & Black Series beginning on Oct. 26 and wrapping up Oct. 30.
Texas Tech opens its 2009 season on Friday, Feb. 20 as the Red Raiders will play a split doubleheader against Southern Utah and Texas-Pan American. Season ticket renewals will begin on Dec. 1 while new season tickets will go on sale to the public on Dec. 8. Individual game tickets will go on sale Feb. 16.
