LUBBOCK, Texas - Despite already breaking several losing trends this season, Texas Tech was unable to overcome Texas A&M's potent offense, dropping Sunday's match, 5-0, in College Station.
Coming into today riding a two-match winning streak, the Red Raiders fell behind in the 34th minute as Ashlee Pistorius would put in the rebound off a Cydne Currie corner kick for her first of two goals on the day.
Pistorius would connect on her 19th goal of the season in the 65th minute of a Paige Carmichael pass.
The Aggies would go on to score three more goals in the final 10 minutes, giving the Aggies the most goals scored against the Red Raiders since Colorado also scored five in 2005.
Senior Priscilla Esquivel and sophomore Zhaleh Rezaie led Tech's offensive attack with two shots each. Goalkeeper Tina Rincon collected nine saves, playing all 90 minutes.
"We tip our hats to Texas A&M," Tech head coach Tom Stone said. "They played like you would expect from Big 12 Champions. We fought hard to make it a game, but with 20 minutes to go, the game got away from us. We are very disappointed by the result, but we recognize what a great opportunity that was to prepare for our trip to the Big 12 Championship next week."
The Red Raiders were dominated statistically as the Aggies attempted 33 shots to Tech's seven and nine corner kicks to the Red Raiders' five. The Aggies are the first team to attempt 30-plus shots against Tech since Nebraska did so in 2005.
Despite the loss, the Red Raiders close the day in fourth place in the Big 12 standings, sitting 7-7-2 overall, 5-4-1 in conference.
While the rest of the conference plays their regular season finale next weekend, the Red Raiders are off until the Big 12 Championships, Nov. 7-11, in San Antonio.
