Texas Tech volleyball returns to the friendly confines of the United Spirit Arena Saturday night when it battles in-state foe Baylor at 7 p.m. It will mark the second and final meeting between the two schools this season.
The Red Raiders (7-14, 1-11) are coming off a hard-fought road loss to a tough Iowa State team Wednesday. Tech staved off two Cyclone game points in the first game before succumbing at 34-32. The Red Raiders were not able to overcome a hot-hitting ISU attack in the second game and battled blow for blow in the third game before the Cyclones surged ahead at the end to finish off the win.
The Bears (12-10, 4-7) are coming off a non-conference win over TCU in which they hit .320 as a team and cruised past the Horned Frogs in three games. Baylor is led on the season by sophomore outside hitter Katie Sanders. Sanders ranks sixth in the Big 12 in kills with 4.23 per game, while sophomore Anna Breyfogle leads the conference with 1.63 blocks per game. The Bears are coached by Jim Barnes in his fourth year at the helm of the program.
The first time the two squads met back on Oct. 3 Tech was unable to douse a hot-hitting Baylor attack in which the Bears hit .383 to edge by the Red Raiders in four games. Caroline Courtney, Michelle Flores and Alicia Ostmeyer all knocked down 11 kills apiece. Baylor's Katie Sanders knocked down a match-high 25 kills on the night.
First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. Tickets are available by calling (806) 742-TECH.
