LUBBOCK, Texas - Returning home from the 2007 Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships in Pacific Palisades, Calif., three players for the Texas Tech women's tennis team faced some of the top collegiate tennis players in the country.
In the first round of singles, senior Janet Durham lost to 6-2, 6-3 to No. 103 Maria Mizyuk from Nevada. Tech junior Samantha van der Drift topped No. 86 Elizabeth Lumpkin from UCLA, 6-4, 6-4, but fell short 6-3, 6-1 to Maya Johansson from Georgia Tech in the second round of the qualifiers.
The Lady Raider undefeated duo of Durham and freshman Kelsy Garland tabbed another into the win column, defeating Cal Poly's Maria Malec and Shannon Brady, 8-4. Unfortunately, the two suffered their first loss in the second round at the hands of Miami's Romy Farah and Caren Seenauth, 9-7.
Next up, the Lady Raiders will travel to Colorado Springs, Colo., for the Air Force Academy Invitational beginning Oct. 13. For more information and complete results from the ITA All-American presented by Fila, visit www.itatennis.com.
