Tech Remains Steady to Finish Fourth

ST. ANDREWS, Scotland - The Texas Tech men's golf team finished its first tournament with a fourth-place effort on the Torrance Course in St. Andrews, Scotland. After finishing the first two rounds in fourth place, the team came out to fire their lowest round of the young season. They ended the International Collegiate with rounds of 292-285-284--861 (-3), three shots shy of third place.
Two Red Raiders contended for top-ten honors. The top finisher for the team was sophomore Jake Younan-Wise, who finished in a five-way tie for third place. After two rounds of play, Younan-Wise sat in a tie for tenth, but he came out swinging a career-low 67 in the third round to finish in third. He carded rounds of 75-68-67--210 (-6) to take home his first top-five finish.
Senior Oscar Floren finished in a tie for tenth. After an even-par round on Sunday, Floren slipped from third to eighth in the final individual standings. He finished with scores of 70-69-72--211 (-5). This marks Floren's 17th top-10 performance.
Others competing for the Tech squad include sophomore Garrett Marrell, who finished in 24th place, which becomes his career top finish. Marrell shot 75-72-72--219 to finish 3-over par. Freshman Will Griffin placed 30th with rounds of 73-76-73--222 (+6). Sophomore Brandon Lakatta had scores of 74-81-74--229 to finish in 52nd place. Competing as an individual was Jeremy Martin, who finished in 27th with a 4-over 220.
North Carolina remained ahead of the pack to take the title with rounds of 279-289-287--855 and finish 9-under par. Gordan Yates of Stirling College took the individual title firing a 13-under 203.
The Red Raiders will next compete at the Carpet Capital Collegiate Classic as they return to the States and travel to Rock Face, Georgia. Action gets underway on Friday, September 15th. For continuing results of the Red Raider men's golf team, please visit www.texastech.com.
