Lady Raider Tennis to Host Tournament

LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech women's tennis hosts the third annual Scarborough Specialties Open Fri., Sept. 29, and Sat., Sept. 30, at the McLeod Tennis Center. Matches will begin at 8:30 a.m. each morning.
Texas Tech, Air Force, North Texas, Texas State, Abilene Christian, New Mexico State, and the Texas-San Antonio are all set to compete in this year's tournament.
Tech women's tennis head coach, Cari Groce, has great expectations for this year's team, and is very excited about this weekend's tournament.
"We are very happy Scarborough Specialties has continued to support this tournament," said Groce. "This weekend the community will get a chance to see some great women's tennis out at the McLeod Tennis Complex. Everyone get ready for some great tennis!"
Playing singles this weekend for the Lady Raiders are Kerryn Potgieter, Samantha van der Drift, Anne Sophie Fankam, Brenna Jackson and Deanna Carrillo. Tech's No. 1 doubles team, Fankam and Jackson, have received a bye in the first round and will play the winner of Abilene Christian and Air Force in the second round. Tech's No. 2 doubles team, Potgieter and van der Drift, will play UT-San Antonio in the first round.
Not participating in this weekend's tournament are senior Lakann Wagley and junior Janet Durham, who will be playing in the 2006 ITA All-American Invitational in Pacific Palisades, Calif. Qualifying rounds begin Sept. 30, with the main draw of the tournament starting Oct. 7, 2006.
