LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech Head Coach Larry Hays announced that the Red Raiders will play 31 home games as part of the 2007 baseball schedule that was released earlier today.
"It's always exciting to put out a new schedule because it means another season is upon us," said head coach Larry Hays. "This schedule allows us to play a lot of home games early and that has usually worked well for us in the past. "We are certainly going to be challenged all year long but I think with the group we have returning, we will be ready for that challenge."
Dan Law Field will play host to eight weekend series in 2007 along with a two-game midweek series against UNLV and five midweek games. The Red Raiders will host four Big 12 series in 2007 including Nebraska, Texas A&M, Kansas and Oklahoma State.
Texas Tech will play in two preseason tournaments as the Red Raiders make their third-straight trip to the Midland College Classic and their first-ever appearance at the Whataburger College Classic in Corpus Christi. Outside of those two tournaments, the Red Raiders will make just one other road trip prior to the Big 12 opener when Tech heads to Albuquerque for a midweek game against New Mexico on Feb. 27.
The Big 12 season gets underway the last weekend of Texas Tech's Spring Break as the Red Raiders play host to the Nebraska Cornhuskers March 16-18. For the first time in several years, Tech will not play Texas A&M over Spring Break as the Aggies come to Lubbock April 5-7. The A&M series is being played Thursday through Saturday in order to not hold a game on Easter Sunday. The Kansas Jayhawks will come to Dan Law Field April 20-22 and Oklahoma State will round out the home conference schedule May 11-13.
A total of nine NCAA tournament teams from 2006 highlight the schedule as well as a single game against the Rice Owls (Whataburger College Classic) who advanced to the NCAA College World Series.
Season tickets for 2007 will be on sale later this fall and information can be obtained by calling the Texas Tech Athletics Ticket Office at (806) 742-TECH.
