LUBBOCK, Texas - Left fielder Roger Kieschnick and right-handed pitcher Miles Morgan were named to the Collegiate Baseball Magazine Louisville Slugger Freshman All-America team earlier today after turning in stellar performances for the Red Raiders during the 2006 season.
Kieschnick, the consensus Big 12 Freshman of the Year and native of Rockwall, Texas, turned in one of the most dynamic season-long performances by any freshman across the country in his Red Raider debut. He finished the season with a .359 average (second-best on the team), 14 doubles, two triples, nine home runs and 55 RBI. He has been invited to the USA National Team Trials later this summer in North Carolina where he will compete for one of 22 roster spots.
Miles Morgan, the Big 12 Freshman Pitcher of the Year and Lubbock, Texas native, capped off his freshman season with a 6-7 overall record in 17 starts as the ace on the Red Raider pitching staff. Morgan logged 106 2/3 innings of work during the season and finished with 103 strikeouts, which is the 10th best single-season strikeout total in school history. Morgan will spend this summer pitching in the Cape Cod League for the Brewster Whitecaps.
The Freshman All-America honors are the first for Texas Tech since Josh Bard was named to the team back in 1997.
