Kieschnick Sweeps Big 12 Freshman Of The Year Honors

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - Freshman left fielder Roger Kieschnick has swept Big 12 Freshman of the Year accolades after picking up his final honor today as the Big 12 coaches announced their all-conference team.
Kieschnick, a freshman from Rockwall, Texas, has become the most heralded freshman in Texas Tech history since Josh Bard took the Big 12 by storm back in 1997. He has been named the Big 12's Freshman of the Year by the Big 12, The Dallas Morning News, Austin American-Statesman, San Antonio Express-News, Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Waco Tribune-Herald and The Oklahoman. He is currently hitting .362 with 83 hits, 14 doubles, two triples, eight home runs and 54 RBI.
Miles Morgan, a redshirt freshman from Lubbock, capped off a solid season as he earned Freshman Pitcher of the Year honors from the Big 12 caoches. Morgan's selection as Freshman Pitcher of the Year gives Texas Tech its' first-ever sweep of the freshman superlatives. Morgan completed the 2006 season with a 6-7 overall record with a 3.63 ERA over 106 2/3 innings and 103 strikeouts. His 103 strikeouts ranks 10th on the school's single-season strikeout list.
Rounding out the All-Big honors were Matt Smith who was named the catcher on the second-team while second baseman Willie Rueda earned honorable mention accolades.
