LAWRENCE, Kan. - Texas Tech senior pitcher Erin Crawford pitched well in her 12th complete game effort of the season, but the Red Raider offense was unable to cash in against Big 12 foe Kansas, as Tech fell to the Jayhawks by a score of 1-0 at Arrocha Ballpark in Lawrence, Kan., on Saturday.
The loss drops Texas Tech's overall record this season to 18-25 and its Big 12 mark to 4-5. Kansas, meanwhile, improves to 22-20 overall and 3-6 in league action.
The Jayhawks took an early lead as they collected three hits off Crawford, scoring the only run of the game on a RBI single by designated player Serena Settlemier.
Kansas starter Kassie Humpreys recorded the shutout in the circle for KU, striking out ten batters while only yielding four hits.
Sophomore outfielder Devin Zaragoza broke up a no-hit bid by Humphreys and got the Red Raider offense started in the fourth inning with a one-out single down the left field line.
Unfortunately, the Red Raiders could not come up with the clutch hit to score their first run of the game as they left runners in scoring position each of the last four innings. For the game, Tech left six runners on base.
Texas Tech softball will continue it series with the Jayhawks tomorrow as the two teams square off at Arrocha Ballpark at noon.
