
Tech Takes on 15th-Ranked Sooners in Norman

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech Red Raider volleyball squad will travel to Norman, Okla., to take on the No. 15 Oklahoma Sooners for the second time this season. The Red Raiders enter at 11-12, 4-10 Big 12, while the Sooners are 20-5 overall and 11-3 in conference play. The match will be played out on Wednesday, Nov. 8th, with a 7 p.m. first serve at the McCasland Field House.
In the previous match, Texas Tech was shut out by the No. 1 Nebraska Huskers by scores of 30-16, 30-21, 30-24. The Red Raiders were out-hit by the Huskers .318 to .102. Tech tallied 35 kills and 24 errors on 108 attempts, while NU notched 52 kills and 17 errors on 110 attempts.
The Huskers prevented Tech from gaining much offensive momentum, as Philister Sang was the only Red Raider to hit double-digit kills with 14. Amy Charlebois added seven kills, while assisting in two blocks. Holly Hicks led the assisting effort with 25, with Emily Ziegler adding six. Defensively Amanda Hiller led the team with 12 digs, while Kiley Lyons and Lindsey Louis both recorded six.
The Red Raiders were held to only two service aces and five blocks. Nebraska doubled the blocking effort from Tech by notching 10; they added five service aces.
Nebraska's Jordan Larson recorded a double-double with 11 kills and 12 digs, while Sarah Pavan registered 16 kills. Rachel Holloway had 41 assists on the night with Dani Busboom leading in digs with 15. The win took Nebraska to 21-0 on the season and 13-0 in the Big 12.
Oklahoma's last match also came against the Huskers, as they were also defeated in a sweep. Nebraska took the match by scores of 30-19, 30-26, 30-27. The Huskers also out-hit the Sooners .288 to .178. OU tallied 47 kills with 24 errors on 129 total attempts, while NU knocked down 54 kills with 20 errors on 118 attempts.
Similar to Tech's individual stats, only one Sooner tallied double-digit kills with Joanna Schmitt leading the way with 13. Anna Monsen was the lone Sooner recording double-digit digs as well, leading with 10. Rachel Jackson led in assists with 39, while Laura Tomes notched four blocks (1 solo, 3 assisted).
In the first match between the Red Raiders and Sooners, Tech took an early 2-0 lead, but slipped in the next three to lose the match 3-2. Oklahoma won by scores of 21-30, 18-30, 30-25, 30-24, 15-8. Tech had a slightly higher hitting percentage with .172 to OU's .148, but were out-hit .360 to .120 in the fifth and deciding game.
Since the first match-up on October 11, Oklahoma has gone on to with five of their seven matches, with wins over Kansas State, then-No. 12 Missouri, Kansas, Texas A&M and TCU. Tech has gone 2-4 since October 11th, with its wins coming over Iowa State and Kansas.
