
Tech Takes on No. 8 Texas at United Spirit Arena

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech Red Raiders will return home to face the Texas Longhorns on Wednesday after being on the road for the last two matches. The Red Raiders will be hoping to fare better at home against the Longhorns, as Tech fell in Austin, Texas, in the first meeting between the two squads. The previous match was the conference opener for each squad, as Texas won 3-0 (30-21, 30-19, 30-28).
Texas Tech has been on the road for the past two matches, in Manhattan, Kan., and Boulder, Colo. Against Kansas State, Tech fell by a score of 3-1. The Wildcats picked up their first conference victory with the win as Tech dropped their first road match since being swept in Licoln, Neb., by the No. 1-ranked Cornhuskers.
Tech's last contest was against the Colorado Buffaloes on Saturday, Oct. 21st. The match marked the beginning of the second half of conference play and the second match against the Buffs. The result was same in the second face-off with Colorado sweeping Tech 3-0. CU defeated the Red Raiders by scores of 30-21, 30-27, 33-31.
Statistically the Buffs held the Red Raiders from much production on both sides of the floor. Tech was held to .148 hitting as Colorado dominated with a .265 percentage. While three Buffs tallied double-digit kills, no Red Raider was able to accomplish such a feat. Two CU members also notched double-digit digs, which was another accomplishment not done by Tech.
Texas is coming off of a 3-2 victory over No. 23 Oklahoma. The Longhorns defeated the Sooners by scores of 30-27, 30-25, 27-30, 25-30, 15-11 to move Texas to a 13-5 overall record and 8-3 in the Big 12.
With strong hitting by each squad, the advantage went to Texas as they outhit OU .278 to .238. Longhorn Destinee Hooker led UT with 26 kills on .364 hitting. Ashley Engle added 22 kills and 10 digs to notch a double-double. Leading setter Michelle Moriarty recorded 67 assists on the night and also completed a double-double with 10 digs.
Prior to their defeat of the Sooners, Texas nearly took a match from the undefeated No. 1 Nebraska. The Longhorns became the only squad to take the Huskers to five games, as UT fell 3-2 to Nebraska. The Huskers won by scores of 27-30, 30-22, 22-30, 30-22, 15-13.
