
Women's Tennis Set to Participate in ITA Regional

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech women's tennis team travels to Fort Worth, Texas this weekend to play in the 2006 Wilson/ITA Southwest Women's Tennis Regional, hosted by TCU. Matches began today at 9:30 a.m.
The tournament, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, is the second of three national championship events for the season. The singles finalists and doubles champions will earn a spot in the November 2-5 ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships in Columbus, Ohio.
In doubles action, Tech's Janet Durham and Anne Sophie Fankam will take on Noelia Leon and Sharon Makhanya of Louisiana Monroe, Kerryn Potgieter and Lakann Wagley while face Baylor's Jana Bielikova and Iva Mihaylova, and Brenna Jackson and Samantha van der Drift will go against the duo of Ashley Ellis and Sumarie Muller of Texas State.
Jackson will open Tech's singles action, competing against Houston's Anna Djananova, then quickly followed by Fankam taking on Andrea Giraldo of Texas State. The main draw singles will be the best of three sets with regular scoring, while main draw doubles will be a regular scoring eight-game, pro-set with tiebreaker at 8-8.
In addition to host TCU, the women's event will feature the top players from Division I schools: Baylor, Centenary, Houston, Lamar, Louisiana-Lafayette, Louisiana-Monroe, LSU, McNeese State, North Texas, Rice, Sam Houston State, SMU, Southeastern Louisiana, Texas, Texas A&M, Texas A&M-CC, UTA, Texas-Pan American, Texas-San Antonio, Texas Tech, Texas State and UTEP.
