
Groce Named to ITA Board of Directors

LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech head women's tennis coach Cari Groce has been named to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Board of Directors, the organization announced this week. The ITA Board of Directors, which is comprised of the ITA Executive Director and coaches representing men and women's tennis from all three NCAA Divisions, NAIA and Junior/Community Colleges, determines overall administrative policy for the association. The Board meets annually each December at the ITA Coaches Convention in Miami.
New Board members are approved by the ITA membership and eligible to serve for three terms, renewable (by membership vote) every two years.
In addition to Groce, new ITA Board members (for women's tennis) for 2005-06 are: Jamie Ashworth of Duke, Buffy Baker of Penn State, Dee Henry of Biola and Nicole Rohr Smith of Wingate. They will join returning Board members (for women's tennis): Kathy Campbell of Vassar, Patty Epps of Franklin & Marshall, Nicole Kenneally of Colorado, Betsy Kuhle of Western Michigan, Ann Lebedeff of Pomona-Pitzer, Sheila McInerney of Arizona State and John Peterson of Tyler JC.
As the governing body of collegiate tennis the ITA promotes both the athletic and academic achievements of the collegiate tennis community. The ITA, which was founded in 1956 and is based in Skillman, N.J., administers numerous regional and national championships, the ITA Collegiate Summer Circuit, presented by the USTA, and the ITA Rankings for men's and women's tennis at the NCAA Divisions I, II and III, NAIA and Junior College levels. The ITA also has a comprehensive awards program for players and coaches to honor excellence in academics, leadership and sportsmanship. The official ITA website is www.itatennis.com.
