LUBBOCK, Texas - One week after finishing second in the McKinney, Texas, Sectional Qualifier, former Texas Tech golfer Kyle Willmann is teeing off in his second-career PGA Tour event at the 105th U.S. Open at Pinehurst Resort & Country Club Thursday morning.
Willmann, who missed the cut in his only PGA Tour appearance at the Shell Houston Open earlier in the spring, tees off Thursday morning at 8:12 CT. Live results of the event can be followed at www.pga.org.
Willmann, currently a member of the Tight Lies Tour, qualified for the U.S. Open on June 6 at the sectional qualifier at the TPC at Craig Ranch in McKinney. The qualifier was one of 16 across the country and Japan.
Willmann, a native of Oklahoma City, transferred to Texas Tech from Tyler Junior College in 2000 and made his presence immediately felt. His Tech career was highlighted at the 2002 NCAA West Regional in Albuquerque, N.M., when he sank a 25-foot putt on the final playoff hole to send the Red Raiders their first NCAA Championships in 26 years.
