
Oscar Floren Shoots a Second Round 74

LUBBOCK, Texas - The No. 30 Texas Tech men's golf team finished up the back end of the first round and completed the second round at the 2005 NCAA Men's Golf Central Regional today in South Bend, Ind., in 19th. The Red Raiders are led by the clubs of junior Andrew Dresser and sophomore Oscar Floren who are tied for 30th after two rounds.
The Red Raiders (287-306-593), as a whole, finished tied for fifth after the first round before struggling in the second round to fall to 33-over-par 593. While the Red Raiders are nine spots out of the top 10 at the regional, they remain just 10 strokes out of qualifying for the NCAA Championships in Baltimore, Md., as a team.
Junior Dresser (70-75-145), who finished the first round tied for sixth, stumbled in the back end of the course to fall to five-over-par for the tournament. Dresser shot a 75 for the second round and still remains in the hunt for an individual berth into nationals as he stands in a tie for 30th after two.
Floren, who sits in a tie with Dresser and eight other golfers, also remains in the hunt for an individual berth with his 74 second-round score. Floren (71-74-145) remained solid throughout the second round and remains on pace to contest for the top-two individual spots at the regional.
Rounding out the remaining Red Raider competitors are junior Nicolas Allain (79-75-154) and junior Tyler Symons (72-82-156) tied for 110th, followed by senior Shaun Melville (74-83-157) tied for tied for 124th.
Leading the tournament is No. 1 Oklahoma State (282-283-565) followed by No. 5 Augusta State (284-284-568) in second. Trailing the leaders are No. 58 Missouri (285-293-578) in third and No. 27 Purdue (291-288-579) in fourth. Rounding out the top 10 are No. 17 Texas (290-290-580), No. 10 Kentucky (288-292-580), No. 42 Wichita State (298-282-580), No. 29 Tulsa (287-294-581), No. 40 Texas A&M (290-291-581) and No. 38 Kansas (289-294-583) in 10th.
Leading the individual field is Oklahoma State's Pablo Martin (65-70-135) who has carded a two-day five-under-par performance. Following OSU's top golfer, who has led the field through both rounds, is Augusta State's Kalle Edberg (70-68-138) carding a two-under-par two-round outing.
Sitting in contention for the top-two individual NCAA Championship berths are individual qualifiers from Ohio State, Scott Anderson, and Eastern Michigan's Korey Mahoney who sit two- and one-under-par after two rounds. Floren and Dresser sit just six-strokes out of the top-two individual qualifying spots, with eight other golfers standing in front of the Red Raiders on the individual leaderboard. Only the top-10 teams advance to the NCAA Championships, while the top-two individuals not on the top 10 teams already advancing also earn a berth.
The third and final round of the NCAA Men's Golf Central Regional will get underway tomorrow at the Warren Golf Course in South Bend, Ind., with a 7:30 a.m. start.
