
Tech Has Two Named to Big 12 Academic Teams

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Big 12 Conference named 23 student-athletes to the 2005 Academic All-Big 12 Men's Golf Team, the league office announced. Texas Tech's Andrew Dresser, junior, and sophomore Oscar Floren are making their second and first appearances, respectively, on the academic teams.
Dresser, who has been named to the Academic All-Big 12 First Team for the past two years (2004, 2005), is majoring in Business at Tech. Dresser currently boasts Tech's second-best stroke average through ten events of a 73.86. Dresser's best finish thus far in the season came at the Aggie Invitational, where the junior finished tied for seventh.
Floren, who is making his first appearance on the All-Big 12 Academic Second Team, currently is studying General Business at Tech. Floren has posted five top-20 finishes, his best coming at The Tucker Invitational, where he finished tied for third. Floren currently owns the Red Raiders lowest stroke-average of a 72. 92 through nine events.
Nominated by each institution's director of student-athlete support services and media relations offices, the women's golf academic all-league squad consisted of 31 first team members combined with six on the second team. First team members include those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, and the second team are those who have a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
To qualify student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of her team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
