LUBBOCK, Texas - Finishing the round with a score of 310, the 27th-ranked Texas Tech men's golf team finished the second round in sixth-place at the Big 12 Championships in Trinity, Texas. Junior Andrew Dresser finished the round in a tie for 15th to the lead the Red Raider individuals at the event.
The round was briefly halted by rain that moved through the Whispering Pines Golf Club (Par 72, 7,330 yards) early in the second round. After an hour delay, the golfers returned to the greens to finish out the round.
Dresser (74-77-151), who shot a second-round 77, moved up one spot to 15th to remain in the hunt for the top ten at the Championships. Sophomore Oscar Floren (73-79-152) struggled in the round falling nine spots to a tie for 20th.
Rounding out the Red Raiders are junior Nicolas Allain (79-75-154) and senior Shaun Melville (75-79-154) tied for 28th, followed by the last competing Tech golfer Tyler Symons (77-82-159) in a tie for 48th.
No. 2 Oklahoma State remains in the lead with a second round 296 and an overall score of 581. No. 34 Oklahoma (588) held onto the second-place position with a second-round 298, followed by No. 67 Missouri (592) in third. Rounding out the top five are Texas A&M (602) in fourth trailed by No. 35 Kansas (607) in fifth.
The Red Raiders stand just two-strokes out of the top five finishing the day with a two-round score of 609.
Oklahoma's Anthony Kim and Justin Fraley currently are tied for the individual leader position carding a 140 over two-rounds of competition. Kim is the only golfer to shoot below par for the round.
The Red Raiders are still looking to top their previous best of fifth at the Championships, which they set in 2003 and 2004.
The final round of the 54-hole event is set to begin at 8 a.m. tomorrow. The Red Raiders will again be the first out of the tees with an 8 a.m. tee time with Iowa State and Texas A&M tomorrow.
