
No. 63 Women's Tennis Heads to Big 12 Tournament

LUBBOCK, Texas - The No. 63 women's tennis team will be traveling to Austin, Texas, for the the Big 12 Tournament on the campus of University of Texas. The tournament begins Thurs., April 28, and the championship will be Sun., May 1 at 1 p.m.
The Lady Raiders are the No. 5 seed in the tournament and will face No. 12 seed Iowa State at 10 a.m. on Thurs., April 28. Tech wrapped up its season last week with a 7-0 victory over Prairie View A&M. The Lady Raiders finished their regular season at 9-12 and 5-6 in conference play. The No. 1 doubles team, Tara Browning and Lakann Wagley, remain in the rankings at No. 50.
Juniors Tara Browning and Katja Kovacic were both named to the Academic All-Big 12 women's tennis first team. Browning, team captain, is a native of High Wycombe, Australia majoring in Journalism. Kovacic is majoring in Public Relations and came to Tech from Kranj, Slovenia. Sophomore Wagley made the All-Big 12 women's second team. Wagley is from Oklahoma City, Okla. and majoring in Political Science.
A victory on Thursday will catapult the Lady Raiders to the second round of play and a match-up against the tournament's fourth seed, No. 33 Texas A&M, on Fri., April 29, at 12 p.m.
