
Red Raider Volleyball Looks to Rebound with Kansas State

Lubbock, Texas - Experiencing a four-match losing streak, Red Raider volleyball will look to rebound with Kansas State, at the United Spirit Arena, on Wed., Nov. 9, at 7 p.m. Tech is sitting at 11-14 and 4-10 in conference play. The visiting Wildcats are 16-8 and 7-7 in conference play.
Last time out, the Red Raiders fell to the Colorado Buffaloes, 3-0, in Boulder, at the Coors Events Center. The Buffaloes secured the match win with game scores of 30-25, 30-23, 30-19 and have won seven straight matches.
The Black and Gold out-hit the Red and Black, .377-.107, on the shoulders of three of their outside hitters. Their Big 12 Player of the Week, Ashley Nu'u, chipped in with 45 assists. The Red Raiders were out-set 53-31.
Philister Sang carried the Tech offense once again as the junior transfer tallied 14 kills and a hitting percentage of .357 with four errors on 28 attempts. Desiree Batista anchored the defense with 12 digs and her career mark now stands at 718. There was little help from a usually productive middle tonight, as they mustered two solo blocks and eight block assists with three blocking errors.
In the last meeting between the two teams, Tech was swept by the Kansas State Wildcats at Ahearn Fieldhouse, in Manhattan, Kan. on Sat., Sept. 17. Ziegler was the Red Raiders' setter and posted a then-season match-high of 38 assists. The offense was shouldered by Pauley who tallied nine kills and a hitting percentage of .692 (13 attempts, zero errors). Sang and Charlebois pitched in with 14 and nine kills, respectively. Tech was out hit .470 to .213 as they registered nine service errors. The Red Raiders also had to battle back from 21 hitting errors.
Kansas State leads the series with the Red and Black, 15-8. The Purple and White have won four of nine matches in the Hub City. They have lost five of their last seven matches, including a recent upset by Kansas, 3-1, in Manhattan, after opening their season with a record of 12-1.
