
Volleyball to Face Jayhawks in Lawrence

Lubbock, Texas - Red Raider volleyball will head north to Lawrence, Kan., to face the Kansas Jayhawks, on Sat., Nov. 12, at 7 p.m. First serve is slated for 7 p.m. at the Horejsi Family Athletics Center. Tech will look for its first conference road win of the season.
Last time out, junior Kiley Lyons tallied 20 kills and six digs in Tech's 3-1 loss to Kansas State, at the United Spirit Arena, on Wed., Nov. 9. The Wildcats secured the match by game scores of 30-21, 25-30, 30-21, 30-17. The Red and Black fall to 11-15 and 4-11 on the season.
Lyons anchored the offense with 20 kills and a .325 hitting percentage, her second-best of the season (20 kills, seven errors, 40 attempts) and her first 20-kill match of the season. Philister Sang added to the offensive attack with 15 kills and aided the defense with nine digs, just missing her ninth double-double of the season. Tonight was Sang's first 15-kill match since Oct. 26, when she had 27 in Tech's 3-2 loss to OU. Desiree Batista controlled the defense and notched 18 digs. The match marks her first 15-dig match since Oct. 26, when she tallied 18 against the Sooners.
The Jayhawks are sitting at 14-11 and 6-10 in conference play at the seventh-place spot in the Big 12. They are rebounding from their eight-match losing streak with a two-match win streak with victories over No. 24 Kansas State and Oklahoma. They topped the Wildcats and the Sooners, 3-1. The Red Raiders lead the series with Kansas, 14-7 and Tech is 7-4 in Lawrence.
At the last meeting between the two teams, the Red and Black battled the Jayhawks to a 3-0 victory at the United Spirit Arena. The Red Raiders topped Kansas by scores of 30-28, 30-25, 30-19. The match marked the first time Tech has beaten Kansas since Nov. 6, 2002. The win was Tech's 13th win over the Jayhawks and their sixth victory over Kansas on their home court.
Sang tallied her seventh double-double of the season with 10 kills and 10 digs. Batista anchored the defense with 14 digs while Brianna Florus led the way for the middle with two solo blocks and four block assists.
