SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Junior Oscar Floren fired a first-round 66 to lead the Texas Tech men's golf team to a successful showing during the first day of the Barona Collegiate Cup. The Red Raiders will enter Tuesday's second round, which was suspended on Monday due to poor weather conditions, in a tie for fifth place at the event with a team first-round score of 278 at the par-72, 7,088 yard Barona Creek Golf Course in San Diego, Calif.

Texas Tech enters the second round trailing BYU by only five shots after the Cougars turned in a 15-under par first round total of 273 to lead the event. Fellow Big 12 schools Kansas State and Missouri are also in the tournament field. On Monday, the Wildcats ended the first round in eighth place with a first round 282, while the Tigers were the only team over par at the event, completing play with a one-over par 289 team total to place them in 19^th place.

The Red Raiders featured four players under par at the event, lead by Floren who tied his season-low round with his tournament opening 66. Freshman Jake Younana-Wise, in his first action of the season, fired a first-round two-under par 70 to finish the day in a tie for 25^th place. Freshmen Brandon Lakatta and Christopher Gold each turned in sub-par rounds of 71, while senior Andrew Dresser completed play on Monday with a stroke total of 76.
