
Horns Halt Red Raider Volleyball, 3-1

Lubbock, Texas - The No. 16 Texas Longhorns opened game one with an 8-0 run and never looked back as they topped the Red Raider volleyball team, 3-1, in Lubbock, this evening. The Orange and White secured the match with game scores of 30-21, 30-24, 25-30 and 30-21.
In game three, the Red Raiders, anchored by the defense that tallied 15 digs and an offense that added 14 kills, held the Longhorns to a .050 hitting percentage as the Orange and White registered 11 hitting errors. The game win also marks the first time Tech has taken a game from Texas since, Nov. 16, 2002 when the Red Raiders fell, 3-1, in Austin. The last time Tech took a game from the Longhorns in Lubbock was Oct. 15, 2001, when the 'Horns topped the Red and Black, 3-2.
Brianna Florus shouldered the offense with eight kills and added in one solo block and four block assists. Defensively, Desiree Batista chipped in with eight digs. Jamye Pauley added to the front line with five block assists.
The Red and Black will be back in action at the United Spirit Arena on Sat., Oct. 22, at 7 p.m., when they host the Texas A&M Aggies.
