
Volleyball Set to Host No. 16 Longhorns

Lubbock, Texas - Red Raider volleyball will host the No. 16 Texas Longhorns, on Wed., Oct. 19, at the United Spirit Arena, at 7 p.m. Tech is currently sitting at 10-9 and 3-5 on the season. Texas has a record of 12-3 and 7-2 this season.
Last time out, Red Raider volleyball earned its 10th win of the 2005 campaign as it swept the Wyoming Cowgirls, 3-0, in Laramie, Wyo. Tech took the match by game scores of 30-25, 30-25, and 30-22.
Philister Sang shouldered the offense once again today with 17 kills and a hitting percentage of .400 (17 kills, three errors, 35 attempts). She also chipped in on defense with nine digs. Desiree Batista recorded 19 digs and upped her career digs mark to 653. Holly Hicks and Emily Ziegler shared the duties setting and aided on 56 team kills. Ziegler marked 32 assists while Hicks added 12. Brianna Florus commanded the middle with two solo blocks and four block assists.
The Longhorns are sitting at 12-3 and 7-2 in Big 12 action. Their key victories have come at the hands of No. 24 Kansas, No. 16 Kansas State, No. 23 Texas A&M, No. 7 Missouri and a pre-conference win over No. 19 Notre Dame who is now sitting at ninth in the national poll. In conference play, they have lost to No. 1 Nebraska and Iowa State. Texas was picked to finish third in the conference after a silver finish during the 2004 campaign. They are currently seated at second in the Big 12.
Texas leads the series with the Red Raiders, 9-59-2, and the Longhorns are 25-2 in the Hub City. The last time the Red Raiders beat the Longhorns was Nov. 1, 2000, 3-0, in Lubbock.
