
Volleyball Set for Two-Match Non-Conference Series

Lubbock, Texas - Red Raider volleyball will take a break from heated Big 12 competition this weekend as they travel to Colorado State and Wyoming for a pair of non-conference match-ups.
The Texas Tech volleyball team was topped by the No. 1 Nebraska Huskers, 3-0, in Lincoln, on Wednesday. The Scarlet and Cream took the match by game scores of 30-16, 30-18, 30-22. The Huskers out-blocked the Red and Black 27-12 while pounding down 50 kills and six service aces. Tech had 32 team kills and two service aces.
Holly Hicks posted her seventh 20-assist match of the 2005 season with her 23 sets. She also added five kills and one service ace. Desiree Batista notched her eight 15-dig match of the season with her 16 dishes. Philister Sang shouldered the offense with 12 kills.
The Colorado State Rams are currently sitting at 10-4 and 4-1 in Mountain West Conference play. Their matches against top 25 teams are losses against No. 25 Pepperdine, 3-0, and No. 16 BYU, 3-0. Colorado State is seated in a tie for second in the MWC standings and was picked a pre-season third in the MWC poll.
The Cowgirls are sitting at 5-10 and 0-6 in MWC play this season and are experiencing an eight-match losing skid. They are currently tied for eighth in the conference. Their wins have come at the hands of Gardner-Webb, Boise State, Prairie View A&M, North Texas and Centenary.
The Rams lead the series with the Red Raiders, 3-0. Tech leads the series with the Cowgirls, 3-1, with all three wins coming on neutral courts.
