
Tech Golf Crosses State Line for The Tucker Invitational

LUBBOCK, Texas-- - The Texas Tech men's golf team will head west to Albuquerque, N.M., for the 2004 William H. Tucker Invitational this weekend. First tee-off is set for Fri., Oct.1, with a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m.
Wearing the Red and Black this weekend will be Tech's top returnees Oscar Floren, Andrew Dresser and Shaun Melville. Tech newcomers junior Nicolas Allain, making his second appearance for Tech this season, and freshman Tyler Simmons comprise the rest of Tech's competitors this weekend.
Three Red Raiders in their first event are averaging below a 73, with those same three helping Tech to its third-place finish at the Notre Dame Invitational with individual top-10 finishes. Melville leads the charge thus far averaging a 72 stroke-average with one tournament under his belt. Melville is coming off his best-career finish with a tie for fourth-place. Floren closely follows his Tech teammate with a 72.33 average, turning in his fifth top-10 finish with a seventh-place performance. Dresser rounds out Tech's top-three individuals averaging a 73 stroke-average, while putting his way to a tied for ninth-place finish.
The 50th annual William H. Tucker field will be made up of some of the top teams in the country including Arizona, BYU, Wichita State and Texas A&M. The whole field is as follows: Air Force, Arizona, BYU, Colorado State, Fresno State, Hawaii, Nevada (Reno), New Mexico State, San Diego State, Texas A&M, University of Las Vegas, Baylor, UT-El Paso, North Carolina, Texas Tech, Colorado, Wichita State and Arkansas.
The tournament will kickoff Fri., Oct. 1, at 7:30 a.m. with a shotgun start. 36-holes will be played on the first-day of competition, with the remaining 18-holes played out on Saturday. The 54-hole event will wrap-up Sat., Oct. 2, at the 7,350 yard, par-72 University Championship Course in Albuquerque, N.M. Live results will be available online at www.golfstat.com.
