Texas Tech Announces 2005 Baseball Schedule

2005 Schedule LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech Department of Athletics and head baseball coach Larry Hays announced the 2005 Red Raider baseball schedule that features 30 home games at Dan Law Field, including key conference series' against Texas A&M, Oklahoma State and Nebraska.

The Red Raiders are coming off a successful 2004 campaign in which the squad went 40-21 while finishing in third place in the Big 12 regular season standings. Texas Tech earned an at-large bid into the NCAA Tournament and advanced to the finals of the Atlanta Regional before bowing out to national No. 4 seed and host Georgia Tech. Texas Tech will open the 2005 campaign against the New Mexico Lobos in a single game scheduled for 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 8 at Dan Law Field. The first three-game series of the season gets underway over the weekend (Feb. 11-13) as the Northern Illinois Huskies will make a return trip to Lubbock for the second straight year. Following a midweek game against TCU in Fort Worth on Feb. 15, the Red Raiders will host Western Illinois Feb. 18-20 and Dallas Baptist on Tuesday, Feb. 22. Last season , Texas Tech played its first-ever game in the newly built First American Bank Ballpark in Midland and Red Raider fans in the Permian Basin will get four more opportunities to catch their favorite team in 2005. Tech will take part in a three game round-robin tournament in Midland Feb. 24-26 (Thursday through Saturday) and will take on New Mexico State, UTSA and Lamar at 7 p.m. each night. The Red Raiders will return to Midland on Tuesday, March 15 to play the Houston Cougars at 7 p.m. Texas Tech will host Texas Arlington on March 1 before beginning at three-game series against Northern Iowa (March 4-6). The Red Raiders will head to the West Coast for the 2005 Public Storage Classic being hosted by Southern California at Dedeaux Field in Los Angeles. Texas Tech will take on the USC Trojans at 8 p.m. (CT) on Friday followed by a 3 p.m. (CT) game against Cal-Irvine on Saturday and a 2 p.m. (CT) match-up against Wichita State on Sunday. The Red Raiders will host four Big 12 Conference series in 2005 including rival Texas A&M (March 18-20) along with Oklahoma State (April 8-10), Kansas (April 22-24) and Nebraska (May 13-15). Dallas Baptist will return to Lubbock for a three-game non-conference series May 5-7 as Tech takes a break from Big 12 action during finals week. The three-game series will run Thursday through Saturday will all three games beginning at 6:30 p.m. Texas Tech will wrap up the regular-season campaign at Oklahoma May 20-22 and will hopefully follow that up with an appearance in the Phillips 66 Big 12 Baseball Tournament at the Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City May 25-28. NCAA Tournament play gets underway on June 3 with the NCAA Regionals while the Super Regionals will follow June 10-13. The 2005 College World Series is set to get underway on June 17 and run through either June 26 or 27 at Rosenblatt Stadium in Omaha, Neb.
