Texas Tech vs. Mississippi State
NCAA Atlanta Regional, Russ Chandler Stadium
June 4, 2004
- Today's game against Mississippi State marked Tech's ninth appearance in the NCAA Tournament (ninth time in 10 years) and the Red Raiders improved to 14-16 all-time in the tourney. Tech also improved to 5-4 all-time in first round games.
- Junior left-hander Dallas Braden tallied a career-high 11 strikeouts today surpassing his previous record of nine set against Oklahoma State back on May 15. He is 5-1 in his last eight starts and has registered two no decisions during that frame. Braden's 11 strikeouts ranks second on the school NCAA records list behind Monty Ward who struckout 12 against South Carolina in the Miami Regional in 1998.
- Texas Tech's 82 home runs this season ranks sixth all-time at Texas Tech. Tech needs just one more home run to move into a tie for fifth with the 1995 team.
- Today's game against Mississippi State was the first-ever meeting between the two schools and just the third-ever matchup against a team from the Southeastern Conference. Tech is now 2-1 all-time against SEC teams and all three games have come in the NCAA Tournament (9-8 loss to South Carolina in the Miami Regional in 1998, 14-10 win against Arkanas in Wichita Regional in 1995).
- Junior shortstop Cameron Blair has now hit safely in 28 of his last 30 games.
