LUBBOCK, Texas - The No. 36 Red Raider golf team came out swinging a 296 in the second-round of the 2004 Central Regional to close the gap between them and the top 10. Tech will look to continue their success through the third-round in order to capture their spot for the 2004 NCAA Championships. The team must first overcome an eight-stroke deficit at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex in West Lafayette, Ind., that stands between them and the top 10.
Freshman Oscar Floren (75-75-150) still leads all Tech golfers as he wraps up the second day in a tie for 30th. Floren moved up four ranks from yesterday's standings with his three-over 75 performance. Senior Brad Jacobson (80-73-153) continues to improve his performance throughout the competition as he moves up 37 spots in the rankings to finish day two tied for 51st. Jacobson shot a one-over 73 to move into the individual top 50s.
Sophomore Andrew Dresser (82-73-155) was Tech's most improved from day one action getting back to his familiar 71.82 season stroke-average. Dresser finished the round with a one-over 73 outing, moving him into a tie for 70th. Tied for 79th, William Haddrell (81-75-156), sophomore, found his stroke carding a three-over 75 second-round. Haddrell was able to sink two birdies at holes No.7 and No.15 to solidify his chance to creep into the top 50 overall. Rounding out the last of Tech golfers was junior Chris Pace (81-81-162) who fell to a tie for 115th-place. Two key two-stroke bogeys led to Pace being the only Tech golfer to not move up on the leader board.
The Red Raiders will enter the third-round of play six-strokes out of the top 10. The Red Raiders were able to overcome a 15-stroke gap between rounds one and two to bring them within striking range of the top ten, but will need another stellar round to solidify their hopes for another championship run. The top 10 teams from every region (East, Central, West) will move on to the championships June 1-4 in Hot Springs, Va.

With tomorrow's round Tech will swing out the remaining 18 holes of the 54-hole event at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex (7,259 yards, Par 72). In the event of a tie for tenth place, each team will enter into a playoff for the final spot.
