COLUMBIA, Mo. - One night after being limited to only one hit, the Missouri Tigers roared back to score 10 runs on 12 hits to defeat Texas Tech softball 10-0 on Sunday afternoon at University Field in Columbia, Mo., to salvage a split in the two-game series.
Missouri (24-23; 11-4 Big 12) got off to a good start offensively in the contest, scoring a pair of runs in the bottom of first inning. Lead off hitter Leanna Bowers started the inning by reaching on an error by shortstop Heather Parker. After stealing both second and third, she scored on a sacrifice fly to left field in the next at bat. Tiger senior Morgan LeCluyse, who was playing in her last home game, hit her fifth home run of the season to left field to give Missouri the 2-0 lead after one inning.
Tech starting pitcher Erin Crawford (10-14), a day after pitching a one-hit complete game shutout to lift Tech to a win in the series opener, struggled in the early innings and was pulled after allowing a lead off home run by Samantha Fleeman and consecutive singles to start the second inning. Kassy Planck entered the game in relief, but could not prevent the Tigers from pushing across three runs in the inning to take a 5-0 lead.
The one inning outing by Crawford was her shortest outing as a starter this season. For the game she allowed five runs, four of which were earned, and struck out one batter.
The Missouri offensive attack kept rolling in the fourth inning, scoring five more runs on five hits to take a 10-0 lead.
Tiger pitcher Erin Kalka (20-15) limited the Lady Raiders to only three hits while striking out five batters. Tech first basemen, who drove in Tech only run in the 1-0 win on Saturday night, collect two of the three Lady Raider hits in the ball game.
Texas Tech softball will now return home and begin preparations for the Big 12 Softball Tournament, which will be held in Oklahoma City, Okla., from May 12-15.
