LUBBOCK, Texas - On Thursday Texas Tech softball will take a look back and honor the careers of its three seniors as it rounds out its home schedule by hosting Northwestern Oklahoma State in a doubleheader at Rocky Johnson Field. Northwestern Oklahoma State replaces Oklahoma City who was Thursday's original opponent but had to drop the games due to over scheduling.
Seniors Andrea Joachims, Britney Stolle and Elyssa Sigala will be honored along with their parents in a pregame ceremony as part of Senior Day. Joachims is a four-year letter winner from Vancouver, Wash., who has started 195 and played in 205 games for the Lady Raiders and for her career has a .212 average with nine home runs. With 64 runs driven in during her time at Tech, she currently ranks third in school history in that category.
Stolle, a native of Round Rock, has played in 156 games in her four-year career, starting 133 of the contests. She has driven in 25 runs and scored 32 runs while batting .219. Stolle has also entertained crowds over the past four seasons with her beautiful rendition of 'The Star Spangled Banner' before home ball games.
In just two years at Tech after transferring from West Valley Community College, Sigala has left her mark offensively on the Tech record books. In her two-year career, she has collected 85 hits, 14 home runs and 54 RBI. Her career average of .295 ranks her fifth in program history. This season, she has been honored by being named to the all-tournament teams at the Mardi Gras Classic, Holiday Inn-Select Tulsa Festival and selected as the Big 12's Player of the week on March 9th after hitting .529 with three home runs and eight RBI. Sigala also set a new school record this season as she hit safely in 21 consecutive ball games from February 22 to March 21.
Thursday's games are slated for 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. first pitches before the team leaves on Friday for a weekend series in Columbia, Mo., against the Missouri Tigers.
