
Tech Names Wilson to Softball Position

LUBBOCK, Texas - Teresa Wilson, who guided the University of Washington to 10-straight NCAA Tournament appearances and six NCAA College World Series appearances, was named head coach of the Texas Tech softball program Monday afternoon.
"We are excited to announce the appointment of Teresa Wilson as the new softball coach at Texas Tech," Director of Athletics Gerald Myers said. "She has a proven record of success on the field and in the classroom. We are pleased to have one of the top softball coaches in the country to lead our program."
The 17-year coaching veteran has a 736-359-1 record as a head coach at the Division I level and has led Washington, Minnesota and Oregon to a combined 12 NCAA postseason appearances, including two national championship game appearances in 1996 and 2000 at UW.
The 1989 NCAA National Coach of the Year began her career at the University of Oregon, where she led the Ducks to the 1989 College World Series. Oregon placed fifth in the tournament and finished fourth in the national polls. In addition to being named the national coach of the year, Wilson also garnered Northwest Region and Pac-10 coach of the year honors.
After assuming the head coaching position at Minnesota in 1989, Wilson led the Gophers to a 78-57 record in two seasons and guided the team to the 1991 Big Ten Championship and NCAA Tournament in her second season. UM finished 15th in the polls in 1991 and Wilson earned Big Ten Coach of the Year honors.
Following two NCAA Tournament appearances in the previous three seasons, Wilson accepted the University of Washington softball position in 1991 and amassed 532 wins in 11 seasons. She led the Husky program to two Pac-10 Championships, 10 NCAA Tournament appearances and two national championship game appearances during her tenure. Additionally, UW ranked among the nation's top five in attendance for seven-straight seasons.
During her 11 seasons at Washington, Wilson coached 26 All-Americans and had 12 players named to NCAA College World Series all-tournament teams. Over 70 players earned All-Pac-10 Conference accolades, while eight were named national players of the week.
Wilson's teams have excelled off the field as well. While at Washington, two players received NCAA Postgraduate Scholarships, two were named CoSIDA Academic All-Americans and 50 earned Academic All-Pac-10 honors.
