LUBBOCK, Texas - Junior Nicolas Allain leads the Red Raiders after the first round at the Carpet Capital Collegiate in Rock Face, Ga., with a score of 77. The Texas Tech men's golf team stands in 15th after the first-round of competition carding a 314 for the day.
Allain enters the second-round of competition in a tie for 37th-place, followed by junior Andrew Dresser and freshman Oscar Floren in a tie for 46th. Dresser and Floren fired off a pair of first-round 78s, followed by senior Shaun Melville tabbing an 81. Melville currently stands in a tie for 73rd. Rounding out the Red Raiders is junior William Haddrell with a tie for 79th first-day performance shooting an 82.
Leading the 18-team field is No.3 Georgia with a first-day score of 290, followed by No.4 New Mexico in second with a 295. Tournament host and the nation's No.1 team Georgia Tech is in third with a 299, while No.17 Duke closely follows in fourth with a 300. Rounding out the top five are No.15 Wake Forest and No.5 Auburn in a tie for fifth tabbing a 301.
The Red Raiders will continue action at The Farm Club Golf Course (Par 72, 6,906 yards) in Rock Face, Ga., with a 9:30 a.m. start tomorrow. The 54-hole event will conclude on Sun., Nov.7, with a 9 a.m. start.
