
Tech Golf Wraps Up Fall Season at Carpet Capital Collegiate

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Carpet Capital Collegiate will play host to one of the strongest fields of the fall season with seven of the nations' top-10 teams in attendance at The Farm Golf Club in Rock Face, Ga. The No.24 Texas Tech men's golf team will have its work cut out for it as they will have to give a solid performance this weekend against the 18-team field that is headlined by host No.1 Georgia Tech.
The 54-hole event is slated to span across three days of competition, with 18 holes scheduled for each day of play starting Fri., Nov.5, and ending on Sun., Nov. 7. Friday's schedule will begin with a 7 a.m. tee-time start.
The Red Raiders will be represented this weekend by senior Shaun Melville, juniors Nicolas Allain, Andrew Dresser, William Haddrell, and sophomore Oscar Floren. Floren leads the Red Raiders with a 71.89 stroke-average while being ranked 36th-nationally. Following the sophomore is Melville who posts a 73.42 season stroke-average. Rounding out Tech's competitors are Dresser (73.62), Haddrell (76.17) and Allain (76.33).
Tech is coming off a tie for third-place finish at The Prestige in La Quinta, Calif., with Melville leading the way with his career highest finish of a tie for third finish. As a team, Tech shot a 917 at a very competitive Greg Norman at PGA West golf course. The Red and Black averaged a 305.67 across the three-rounds at The Prestige.
The Raiders have tabbed four-straight top-10 finishes, with three in the top five. Tech's highest finish of third came at the opening tournament of the fall season at the Notre Dame Invitational/ Central Regional Preview. Tech's lowest finish of sixth came at the Club Glove Invitational last month.
Tech golfers are no strangers to the leader board, as the Red Raiders as a team have combined for eight individual top-20 finishes. Melville and Floren have posted the team's highest top-individual finishes thus far. The two Raiders have carded a pair of tied for third-place finishes at The Prestige and The Tucker, respectively.
Tournament host No.1 Georgia Tech tops the 18-team field followed by No.3 Georgia, No.4 New Mexico, No.5 Auburn, No.6 TCU, No.7 Southern California and No.9 Texas. Rounding out the field are No.12 Tennessee, No.13 Augusta State, No.15 Wake Forest, No.17 Duke, No.21 Clemson, No.24 Tech, No30 South Carolina, No.36 Florida, No.46 Vanderbilt, East Tennessee State and North Carolina State.
The Carpet Capital Collegiate will also feature some of the nation's best individual golfers with New Mexico's Michael Levin, ranked No.1 in the country, leading the field. Levin is followed No.3 Kalle Edberg (Augusta State), No.5 Roberto Castro (Georgia Tech), No.6 Matt Every (Florida), No.8 Chris Kirk (Georgia), No.9 Ryan Blaum (Duke) and No.10 Kevin Kisner (Georgia), with eight more individuals ranked in the top 25 by the Golfweek.com poll.
First swing is set for a 7 a.m. tee-off at The Farm Golf Club in Rock Face, Ga. Tournament scores can be found live on Golfstat.com throughout the tournament.
