
Buck, Edwards Named To All-Big 12 Academic Team

DALLAS, Texas - Texas Tech senior pitcher Dusty Buck and sophomore outfielder/catcher Madison Edwards were honored by the Big 12 today as both student-athletes were named to the 2003 Academic All-Big 12 Baseball team.
Texas Tech senior pitcher Dusty Buck earned first-team honors as he has a 3.78 cumulative GPA as a business major in the Jerry Rawls College of Business. Buck has a 4-3 record on the mound this year and an ERA of 4.66.
Sophomore outfielder/catcher Madison Edwards was named to the second-team has he has a 3.0 cumulative GPA as a history major in the College of Arts and Sciences.
To qualify student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of his team's scheduled contests. Pitchers must have at least one inning pitched per game played by the team or have appeared in 35 percent of their team's total games. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation also are eligible.
Many of these student-athletes will compete at the Phillips 66 Big 12 Conference Baseball Tournament at SBC Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City, Okla., May 21-25. Texas, the reigning national champion, looks to defend its conference tourney title next week. Last season, the Longhorns halted Nebraska's tournament-winning streak at three (1999-2001) with a 9-6 victory over the Huskers for their first Big 12 postseason triumph. Currently, NU and UT are tied for first place in the league standings with a week left in the regular season.
