LUBBOCK, Texas - The Lady Raiders swept Oklahoma City University 8-5, 10-2, today at Rocky Johnson Field with head coach Bobby Reeves earning his 100th career win and run ruling the Stars for his 101st win. The team logged seven doubles and two homeruns against OCU.
In game one, Tech did not score until the fourth although they logged two hits in the second and third, doubles by Amanda Douglas and Kristi Robles. In the fourth, Douglas and Andrea Joachims landed on base with singles and Douglas scored on a sac fly. Tiffany Harrington finished out the scoring drive with a two-RBI double to give the Lady Raiders a 3-0 lead.
In the sixth, Kami Brokaw hit a double to right center field scoring Jill Vaughn, avoiding a Tech shutout. Amie Stines came in at the bottom of the sixth to relieve starting pitcher Erin Crawford, who gave up four hits in the game. The Stars scored four runs in the sixth off a double by Brokaw and a Tech error and one run in the seventh off three hits, taking the OCU lead to 5-3 heading into the seventh.
In the seventh, Robles slammed a two-RBI homerun to tie up the game. With Douglas and Joachims on base, Newton capped Reeves' 100th win with a three-RBI homerun to seize a Tech win at 8-3.
In game two, Tech scored in the first off a single by Rhyne. OCU's Angela Stratton hit a homerun in the second to tie the game at 1-1 heading into the bottom of the second.
Tech's offense exploded in the second scoring eight runs off six hits, the most runs scored in one inning this season. Tech went through the complete batting order with hits, including two doubles off the bats of Rhyne and Lisa Lawler, singles by Newton, Douglas, and Joachims, and a two-RBI single by Robles. Douglas, Robles, and Kelly Rhyne are now in a three-way tie for a team high 10 doubles.
Tech scored one run in the third and the Stars scored in the fourth, but the eight-run second inning was too much to overcome and the Stars fell 10-2 in five innings.
Tech (18-38, 3-13) will play its last series tomorrow when they host the New Mexico State Aggies for a doubleheader beginning at 1 pm.
