Tech Women's Tennis Wraps up Competition in College Station

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The Texas Tech women's tennis team finished tournament play at the Texas A&M Fall Invitational in College Station today. The Lady Raiders were very successful on the day in doubles winning all three matches, and went 2-4 on the day in singles play.

In doubles action, the 43rd ranked duo of seniors Kendall Brooks and Irina Tereschenko bested Yasmin Fisher and Karen Chao (Rice), while sophomore Tara Browning and freshman Hristiyana Gocheva defeated Medeja Egic and Loli Gomez (Lee College), 8-6. Freshman Lakann Wagley and sophomore Katja Kovacic also won their match, defeating Erika Villalobos and Annie Goodrich (Rice), 8-5.

In singles action, the Lady Raiders had two wins on the court with Tereschenko defeating Egic (Lee College), 6-0, 6-1, and Brooks, who defeated Gomez (Lee College), 6-1, 6-0. Browning was deafeted by Chao (Rice), 6-1, 1-6, 1-0(8), while Kovacic lost to Goodrich (Rice), 6-2, 6-1. Freshman Iva Gyurgina was defeated by Villalobos (Rice), 6-2, 6-2, and Wagley lost to Fisher (Rice), 6-0, 5-7, 1-0(4).

"I think the team finally played up to its potential today, I was pleased and so was the team," stated head coach Cari Groce. "After the way we played today, this gives the team a lot of confidence going into the spring. We know we can compete at a very high level against some great teams."

The Lady Raiders will resume action in the spring on Feb. 1 when they take on North Texas in Denton.
