LUBBOCK, Texas - The Red Raider volleyball squad fell 3-0 (17-30, 23-30, 25-30) to the Colorado Buffaloes tonight at the United Spirit Arena. The team was held to a season conference low .100 while a stingy Colorado defense out blocked Tech 14.5 to 7.0.
Tech started out on a 3-1 run but a Colorado kill evened out the score at 3-3. The teams battled within two points until a block by Colorado brought the score to 14-10. A kill by Christina Miler brought the score to 17-14. Miller finished the night with a team high .714, with five kills and no errors. Colorado got its biggest lead at 27-17 and would go for three straight points for the game win.
Tech got its first game point in over 11 plays and would hold a 5-2 lead over the Buffaloes, the biggest lead of the match. The teams tied at six and would swap points until 14 all where Colorado would take the lead to 20-16. A kill by Jessica Watson and an ace off Kelly Johnson cut the CU lead to 27-22. Watson finished the game with a .286 hitting percentage with two blocks while Johnson tabbed 10 kills with two service aces. Colorado would hold the lead ending the game at 30-23.
Game three started with a 4-1 Colorado run but a kill by Breanna Pursley brought score to 7-4, Colorado. Pursley had a team high 12 digs with 10 kills. Tech tied up the score at 11 after two assisted blocks gave the team two points. Tech got its first lead of the game at 14-13, holding the lead to 16-15. Colorado came back taking a lead to 25-20. Tech earned two straight points but at 29-25 a Colorado kill sealed the win.
Tech (10-14, 2-13) will head to Ames, Iowa to take on the Cyclones on Wednesday. The teams met earlier this season in Lubbock, a 3-0 Cyclone victory.
