
Volleyball Lands Seven on All-Big 12 Academic Teams

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Big 12 Conference announced today 50 student-athletes named to the 2003 Volleyball Academic All-Big 12 Team. Tech, along with No. 5 Kansas State, placed the most student-athletes on the team with seven, six first team members and one on the second team.
The junior class placed four players on the first team with Daneen Grisham, Laura Grote, Jessy Herrera and Kelly Johnson all earning first team honors. This is the second time honor for both Grote and Johnson. Sophomore's Katie Halley and Jessica Watson also earned first-team honors. Lone senior Angela Mooney was placed on second-team, her first Big 12 academic honor.
Nominated by each institution's director of student-athlete support systems and the media relations offices, the volleyball academic all-league squad consisted of 42 first-team members combined with eight on the second team. First-team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, while the second team are those who have a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA. Freshman and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence.
