
Tech Volleyball Drops Baylor 3-2

LUBBOCK, Texas - After an earlier season 3-2 loss the Texas Tech volleyball team shut down the Baylor Bears 3-2 (30-26, 30-25, 16-30,28-30, 15-13) tonight in Waco, Texas to even the score against the Bears.
Texas Tech won games one 30-26 and game two 30-25 hitting over .200 in both games. They could not carry the momentum into game three falling 30-16 with the team only hitting .045. The team hit .159 in game four with the Bears hitting .184 and handing the Red Raiders a 30-28 loss. The teams went into five games but Tech clinched the match win with a 15-13 game five score.
Junior Laura Grote was explosive on both sides of the ball with 60 assists,18 digs and three assisted blocks, all conference season highs. She also hit a match high .909 on the night with 10 kills. Two Red Raiders, sophomore Breanna Pursley and junior Kelly Johnson, accounted for more than half of the team's 77 kills. Pursley logged 21 kills with 25 digs, a career high and the most for any Red Raider this season. Pursley also added four assisted blocks. Johnson tabbed 22 kills with 11 digs, her 11th double double of the season.
Defensively, freshman Christina Miller logged seven blocks, six assisted and one solo, the most for a Red Raider this season. Junior Jessy Herrera had 10 digs while freshman Kiley Lyons contributed 17 digs with two assisted blocks.
Tech (10-12, 2-11) will continue its road stretch on Wednesday against the Oklahoma Sooners. The teams met earlier this season in Lubbock with Tech handing the Sooners a 3-0 loss, capturing its first conference win of the season.
