LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech Track and Field coach Wes Kittley announced Wednesday afternoon the hiring of Don D. Hood as head field events coach.
The Abilene, Texas, native has spent the last six years as the head coach at Southwest Texas State University where he earned five Southland Conference Championships. Along with his conference titles Hood was named Coach of the Year five times and produced three All-Americans.
"I am excited to be reunited with Don," stated Kittley. "He brings in a wealth of experience as a person and a coach, I am just excited to bring in a coach with his attitude and coaching abilities."
Prior to SWT, Hood worked as an assistant coach at Sam Houston State University from 1994-96. From 1988 through 1994 he was the cross-country coach at Temple High School where he lead the Wildcats to its first district title in 25 years and placed third at the 5A meet.
As an athlete, Hood ran distance under Kittley at Abilene Christian University.
Hood fills the position opened by Chris Beene, who took the head coaching position at Wayland Baptist University last month.
