2002 SEASON AT A GLANCE
* Texas Tech finished the 2002 season with an overall record of 42-20 and tallied a Big 12 record of 16-11 which placed the Red Raiders in a tie with Nebraska for second place. Texas Tech has now placed second in the Big 12 in consecutive seasons.
* The Red Raiders finished the year ranked No. 24 by Collegiate Baseball Magazine and No. 25 by the NCBWA (National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association).
* The 42 wins earned by this year's squad is the 10th 40-win season in Texas Tech school history and all 10 have come in the Larry Hays era.
* The Red Raiders made it to the post-season for the eighth time in school history when the NCAA Baseball Committee tabbed Tech as a No. 2 seed at the Houston Regional hosted by Rice University. Texas Tech's eight NCAA Tournament bids have come in consecutive years dating back to 1995 giving the Red Raiders the longest active streak in the Big 12 Conference.
* Texas Tech tied a school record and set a new Big 12 Conference record with a 16-game game win streak that began on April 13 against Kansas and ended on May 22 against Nebraska in the second round of the Big 12 Tournament. The previous Big 12 record was a 15-game streak by Nebraska during the 2000 season.
* The Red Raiders played in two major league stadiums this year marking the first time that Texas Tech has played in two major league ballparks in the same season. The Red Raiders played in the Astros College Classic at Enron Field (now Minute Maid Park) in Houston and in the Big 12 Tournament at the Ballpark in Arlington.
* The 2002 season marked the final year of NCAA probation for the Texas Tech baseball program and the Red Raiders will return to the maximum scholarship level in 2003. Texas Tech has played with three less scholarships over the last four years and miraculously did not miss an NCAA Tournament during that stretch. The Red Raiders compiled a record of 163-83-1 during the four years of 8.7 scholarships and had 40-win seasons in three of those four years (1999, 2001 and 2002).
